Which German Cities Have the Most English-Speaking Jobs? (2026)

EnglishSpeakingJobs.de·10 February 2026·7 min read

How we rank English-speaking job density

We look at three factors: the total number of English-language job listings, the concentration of English-first employers (international companies, tech startups, financial institutions), and how much of daily working life you can conduct in English without needing German.

1. Berlin — highest volume, most English-first culture

Berlin has the largest absolute number of English-speaking job listings in Germany. Over 60% of all tech and startup job listings in Berlin are posted in English, and the majority of startups with more than 50 employees operate in English as their primary language.

Best sectors: software engineering, product management, UX design, data science, e-commerce, media and content, fintech (N26, Trade Republic, Mambu).

Average tech salary: €65,000 – €90,000 gross/year (lower than Munich but offset by lower cost of living).

English feasibility rating: 5/5 — you can live and work in Berlin for years in English only.

2. Munich — highest salaries, strong English in tech and corporates

Munich pays the highest average salaries in Germany. The English-speaking job market is strong, particularly at international tech companies (Personio, Celonis, Microsoft Germany), automotive tech (BMW, Audi digital), aerospace (Airbus), and financial services.

Best sectors: software engineering, automotive tech, aerospace, management consulting, private equity, life sciences.

Average tech salary: €75,000 – €110,000 gross/year.

English feasibility rating: 4/5 — professional work is doable in English; basic German is useful socially and for daily admin.

3. Frankfurt — best for finance and consulting

Frankfurt is the financial capital of continental Europe. The English-speaking job density in finance, banking, and consulting is the highest in Germany — arguably higher than Berlin for these specific sectors. The European Central Bank, Deutsche Bank, JP Morgan Germany, Goldman Sachs Germany, and hundreds of asset managers are headquartered here.

Best sectors: investment banking, asset management, fintech, Big Four consulting, international law.

Average finance salary: €60,000 – €130,000 gross/year depending on seniority and firm.

English feasibility rating: 4.5/5 — in the financial district, effectively English-only. Beyond work, the large expat community makes daily life accessible.

4. Hamburg — logistics, media, and growing tech scene

Hamburg has Germany's largest port and a strong concentration of logistics, shipping, and media companies that hire internationally. The tech scene is smaller than Berlin but growing, with About You, Otto Group, and a cluster of e-commerce companies hiring in English.

Best sectors: container shipping and logistics (Hapag-Lloyd, Kuehne+Nagel), media (Zeit, Spiegel), e-commerce (About You, Otto), consulting.

Average salary: €58,000 – €90,000 gross/year for English-speaking professional roles.

English feasibility rating: 3.5/5 — very international culture, but more German in everyday life than Berlin.

Best sectors: FMCG (Henkel, Procter & Gamble DACH), advertising and media, fashion retail, Japanese multinationals.
